Politician, Lawyer Trade Words Over Acronym of Political Party
National Secreatry of the African People’s Congress (APC), Barrister Saidi Balogun and a Member of the Publicity Committtee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Rotimi Fashakin today traded words over the claim on who possesses the acronym APC.
See more after the cut...
Both were speaking during Channels Television’s weekend breakfast programme Sunrise Saturday.
Mr Fashakin argued that the Mr Balogun’s, yet to be registered, party was put together shabbily and a plot to destabilize and dilute their votes by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
He said the PDP are agitated by the merging parties and have planted the African People’s Congress to supposedly weaken their popularity going by the fact that they carry the same acronym.
However in a swift reaction, Balogun debunked all the claims, saying the African People’s Congress has been in existence since 2011, claiming it was formed as an association and it remained quiet because they are not “noise makers”.
He said “We have taken concrete steps to be registered by INEC”. Balogun said they deliberately refused to talk to the press since the formation of the association because “We are still trying to put our house in order”.
Furthermore, he said “We have a very long way to go, our party is a pan African party”.
