President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday visited the Ikenne
country home of the late Sage, Obafemi Awolowo, to condole the matriarch
of the Awolowo family, Chief (Mrs) HID Awolowo, for the death of her
son, Oluwole Awolowo.
President Goodluck Jonathan, who was received by family members and
led by the Deputy Governor of Ogun state; Segun Adesegun, expressed
deep sorrow over the demise of Mr Awolowo who died on Thursday in a
London Hospital.
The publisher of Tribune Newspaper passed on following complications
from a road accident he had along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in 2006.
“Ordinarily at three scores plus (70years old), one will be grateful
to God but still, this death of Chief Oluwole Awolowo is very painful to
all of us. May God grant his soul a peaceful rest and let the family
have the fortitude to bear the loss” the President stated.
He assured that the federal government would continue to remember the
family and assist them, especially the children of the deceased no
matter the situation.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Tokunbo Dosumu thanked the
President for the visit saying the family was yet to understand the
reason for the death.
